FAVOUR ISHEMBER, Abuja
The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has postponed the full rollout of its Single Revenue Account Policy due to technical issues.
This policy aims to curb revenue leakages and eliminate manual cash handling by transitioning to a unified digital payment platform.
The delay is attributed to “technical glitches” in synchronizing the AMAC Smart Tax portal with commercial banks and the central treasury system.
Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, AMAC’s Executive Chairman, explained that this extension protects taxpayers from potential system errors or double-billing.
He noted that currently, active official payment channels remain valid until the new system is certified, and cautioned that taxpayers should verify “Demand Notices” and only honor those with verified AMAC digital headers for 2026.
Stating that a new “Go-Live” date will be announced after technical audits are completed.
AMAC reiterates its stance against unauthorized revenue collectors, emphasizing that the delay is technical, not administrative.
“Our ban on cash payments to individuals remains in force. This extension is simply to ensure that when the portal opens fully, every kobo is instantly accounted for without error.”
AMAC has warned residents to be wary of individuals posing as “technical consultants” attempting to capitalize on this extension to solicit private payments.
A Modernized AMAC
The Single Account Policy is a cornerstone of the 2026 budget, which allocates 80% of capital expenditure to rural infrastructure.
The automation is expected to significantly increase the Council’s internally generated revenue (IGR) by blocking loopholes that have historically diverted public funds into private pockets.
