The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 9, Umuahia, AIG Nwonyi P. Emeka ( PhD) has urged Ohaigbo Community Development Initiative (OCDI), community and traditional leaders, religious leaders, business men and women as well as youths to see themselves as strategic partners to the security stability and development in the South East region.

He said police has a constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property, noting that police requires corporations and partnership of the members of the communities for effective policing.
“The Police has a constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property, prevent and detect crimes, maintain public order and enforce the law. But effective policing depends totally on the corporation, confidence and partnership of the community being served.”
He advised community members to assist police by providing timely information which can serve as early warning to nib crime at its node, insisting that they are usually the first to notice unusual movement and emerging tensions.
“Community members are often the first to notice unusual movement, emerging tensions, criminal networks , disputes and other development that may eventually threaten public safety. Your information therefore, can become our early warning and it is our responsibility is to transform such information timely to intelligence and full intervention on effective crime prevention” he said
AIG Nwonyi said South East has enormous human capital resources, entrepreneurial energy and intellectual capacity for development, adding that investors may not confidently establish business in an environment where there is insecurity.
“South East has enormous human capital resources entrepreneurial energy, intellectual capacity and cultural strength, our collective challenge is to convert these assets into sustainable economic growth and social development . There is a direct relationship between development and security. Investors may not confidently establish business in an environment where lives and property are unsafe”
“Community can not prosper where fear dominate daily life. Security therefore, is not merely a police issue,it is an economic and developmental imperative.
“I encourage Ohaigbo Community Development Initiative to incorporate security consideration into its community development program, particularly in areas of infrastructure, markets, transport, technology, youth employment, education and community development ” he said
Earlier, the National President and Founder of Ohaigbo Community Development Initiative , Hon. Amb. Jonathan David Okwudiri, described the initiative as a non partisan , non-governmental, people -centered community development and peace building organization.
