Abia insists on transparency in recruitment of health professionals

Abia State Government says it is committed to recruiting qualified health professionals into its healthcare sector through transparent processes.

 

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, stated this on Monday at Government House, Umuahia, while addressing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting, chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

 

He said that the recruitment exercise is progressing very well and informed that, “at the onset, about 2,035 applications were received, while 1,752 applicants were shortlisted. 1,404 applicants completed the CBT assessment test, staged in two cohorts.

 

” The first cohort had about 1,250 applicants, and the mop-up cohort had about 187 applicants. The interview for those who were successful during the CBT test is ongoing.

 

The Commissioner announced that the state government has continued to give the state a face lift

in line with the road infrastructure development agenda of Governor Alex Otti.

 

He disclosed that six new roads, including, Port harcour road, Aba and Ohanku Road are among the set of roads to be commissioned in early October 2025, bringing the total number of roads projects to have been commissioned in the State to 39.

 

“These road projects, no doubt, underscore the Governor’s resolve to ensure infrastructure and renewal, inclusive development and a conducive environment for economic growth and development of the state”,

 

Contributing, the Chairman Abia State Civil Service Commission, Pastor Mrs Eno Jerry-Eze informed that the recruitment process has been transparent and would continue to be.

 

“We are committed to ensuring that His Excellency’s vision and dream of a new Abia is also implemented even in our recruitment process.

 

“So the idea is that we are getting the most qualified persons into the healthcare or the health profession.

 

” We are interested in getting the most qualified people in and we are doing everything possible to ensure that happens, ” Mrs. Jerry – Eze.
