As part of efforts to address the country’s housing deficit, the Federal Government has launched a 241-unit site and service housing scheme on a 33-hectare expanse of land in Osogbo, Osun State.
At the official launch of the scheme on Thursday, the Executive Director of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Nya-Etok Ezekiel, noted that the initiative, in partnership with Summit Group Limited, is designed to provide residential, commercial and recreational facilities to create a self-sustaining community in the state.
According to him, the development will comprise residential plots as well as commercial and institutional facilities, including a police station, recreational and sporting facilities, hotels, clinic, shopping mall, church, mosque, energy station and water treatment station.
He said the comprehensive planning of the estate was aimed at creating an environment where residents could live, work and relax within a safe and well-planned community.
Ezekiel said the initiative reflected the renewed commitment of the FHA to tackling Nigeria’s housing challenges through innovative public-private partnerships.
He explained that the collaboration with Summit Group Limited was designed to deliver quality housing while creating investment opportunities for citizens and investors.
Ezekiel said, “Government alone cannot bridge this gap. Our collaboration with Summit Group Ltd exemplifies the shared-risk, shared-value approach that produces faster delivery, higher quality outcomes, and greater value for both citizens and investors,” he stated.
“We are guided in our work by the clear charge given to us by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu upon assumption of office: to be bold, accountable and results-driven in addressing the nation’s housing challenges.”
The FHA executive director added that the project was guided by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for the housing sector to be bold, accountable and results-driven.
He said the authority had consequently reoriented its strategies towards accelerating project delivery, improving land utilisation, incorporating sustainable design principles and ensuring greater inclusivity in access to housing opportunities.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Summit Group Limited, Otunba Olalere Olabode, described the development as more than an ordinary housing estate, saying the objective was to create homes with the necessary facilities and security for residents.
Olabode said the estate should be regarded as a Federal Government Residential Area (GRA), given its location, infrastructure and planned facilities.
“In Summit Group, we believe everybody in Nigeria should have a home and, importantly, a roof over their head. As we support premium homes, we also support affordable homes because everybody is entitled to a decent dwelling,” he said.
He added that the Osogbo project would be developed as a premium estate, with facilities provided within the community to enhance residents’ quality of life.
The Executive Director, Project Implementation, FHA, Oluremi Omowaiye, said the project was part of the authority’s broader housing development efforts across the country.
Omowaiye said the FHA had undertaken similar projects in several states, adding that the Osogbo development was consistent with the Federal Government’s infrastructure and housing agenda.
“We will be commissioning the Buhari Housing Scheme, which is massive, and under the Oyetunde-led administration we have achieved a lot,” he said.
He added that the FHA had so far embarked on projects in about 17 states, with plans to expand housing development across the country.
The Osogbo scheme is expected to combine housing with supporting infrastructure and social amenities, in line with the Federal Government’s drive to promote integrated and sustainable communities.
