First Lady donates N1bn to victims of Plateau attacks, says enough of bloodshed

DANIEL DAUDA, Jos

First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N1 billion to the communities that were attacked by terrorist,s saying that “enough is enough of the killings in Plateau.”

Mrs. Tinubu also handed over about 1,800, 25kg bags of rice for onward distribution to the vulnerable persons in Plateau.

The gesture is under the First Lady’s brainchild, “Renewed Hope Initiative,” in collaboration with the ASR African Initiative, and is aimed at bringing succour to vulnerable individuals in society.

Presenting a cheque and food commodities to the Plateau State government on Thursday at Government House Little Rayfield, during an interface with the religious leaders and traditional rulers, the First Lady stated that as a mother, her heart bleeds anytime she hears about killings, bloodshed or violence in Nigeria.

“Two days ago, I met with  Governor Mutfwang, and I mentioned that I wanted to meet with the traditional rulers and religious leaders. I am glad that you are all here today. This visit is one filled with mixed emotions for me. I came here first as a mother whose heart bleeds each time I hear about killings, violence, or bloodshed.

“It took me some time to respond, but I want to assure you that this will be the last time I will respond to such a situation in Plateau State. I pray that God will honour this, and from now on, it shall be for the progress of the state.”

She acknowledged that she always admired Plateau’s natural beauty and serenity, appealing for Plateau men to rise up and protect women and children.

“I am here not just to give money, but to appeal to the men of this land to protect us. We women do not fight. Women, do you fight? We do not carry arms. But we are asking you, as men, to protect us, to ensure that our children can live in peace and grow up without fear. What legacy do you want to leave behind?

“God has already heard our prayers, and we will visit other places in need of support, like Benue and Niger”, she added.

Wife of Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, revealed that the goal of the Renewed Hope Initiative is to complement the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Tinubu administration.

According to her, this initiative goes beyond just food distribution. It is about building a stronger, more compassionate community.

“By providing food, we are not only feeding individuals but also fostering hope and dignity for countless families.

“Under our economic empowerment programme, we have distributed grants of 50 million naira to each state and the Federal Capital Territory. These funds have supported 1,000 women petty traders in each state, with each receiving 50,000 naira to capitalize and strengthen their small businesses. We are deeply encouraged by the positive transformation this initiative has brought to the lives and livelihoods of the beneficiaries.

“Therefore, we have decided to expand both the scope and value of this Programme. During my recent visit to Enugu State, I announced a new phase of support. Soon, cash grants of 200,000 naira each will be provided to 250 persons with disabilities in every state of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory.”

Receiving the cheque donation, Governor Caleb Mutfwang promised that no kobo would be misused as it will get to the target beneficiaries.

“We want to thank you immensely for this special visit. From my personal conversations with you, I know you carry a deep burden for Plateau, and that is reflected in the prayers you’ve offered for our peace. Today, you have come to express that burden, and we sincerely welcome you.

“May God continue to preserve you. May He uphold you and give you the strength to provide the leadership needed in our land, especially at this time.”
