Environment ministry urged to focus on expanding energy grid

Environment Ministry has been advised to focus more on expanding the energy grid for the benefit of the country.

The minister of state for works and housing, Muazu Raji Sambo who gave the charge at the Ministerial Briefing of the Ministry of Environment in Abuja yesterday said Nigeria must seek to expand its power generation through a low carbon path by making investments in clean modern energy and harnessing its renewable energy resources such as solar, wind, and mini-hydropower

Sambo commended the ministry of environment for the feat achieved under the administration of Sharon Ikeazor, saying, that the ministry has done well.

He said, “the Federal Ministry of Environment has done very well since the Muhammadu Buhari led administration  came to power.

“As at 2015, he said about 35% of the total land area in Nigeria was affected by desertification. Since then, the Buhari Administration has rehabilitated over 1558 hectares of this degraded land, and in the process also, lifted over 8000 people out of poverty.”

He hailed the Federal Ministry of Environment at the efforts and successes it has recorded in the area of recycling plants as well as with the green wall initiatives, intended to left  thousands of people out of poverty in Nigeria.

Mu’azu wished the  Minister of State, Environment greater success in 2022 and beyond, while thanking the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary and the civil service hierarchy, development partners as well as the National Assembly among others.

He called for a sustained synergy between the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing and the Federal Ministry of Environment.
