2027: ‘We’ll take back Ogun’ — Adebutu vows to restore PDP governance

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, has vowed to reclaim the state for the PDP in 2027, promising to restore people-centered governance and tackle corruption.

Adebutu made the pledge on Monday at the flag-off of his campaign at Ake Palace, Abeokuta, urging residents to vote the PDP to “usher in a new era of development and good governance.”

The PDP candidate said his confidence in Ogun people remained unshaken, recalling the party’s years in power between 2003 and 2011.

According to him, PDP administrations in that period strengthened local government autonomy, paid pensions and gratuities, and implemented policies that boosted grassroots development and wealth creation.

He, however, accused governments since 2011 of bringing hardship, economic stagnation and neglect to the state.

“Successive administrations since 2011 have subjected residents to hardship, economic stagnation and neglect. Poor governance and corruption have undermined the state’s development,” Adebutu alleged.

Adebutu said a PDP government under him would focus on security, healthcare, agriculture, trade and investment, local government development, regional planning, transportation, education, and youth and women empowerment.

He added that his administration would also prioritise strategic infrastructure, residential development, job creation, and building “functional and liveable communities.”

“Accountability, transparency and the fight against corruption will form a major component of my administration,” he said.

The governorship hopeful also raised concerns over the management of state finances, claiming a review of budgets over the past seven years revealed serious issues.

He alleged that some companies doing business with government were registered without proper identification of directors, while some company accounts were not properly linked to Bank Verification Numbers, BVNs.

“I am currently verifying the allegations and will, where appropriate, make the details public,” Adebutu said.

Declaring that his commitment to Ogun was “total, permanent and absolute,” Adebutu said his years in the state had given him deep understanding of its challenges.

“A PDP government under my leadership will restore our glorious people-centred governance, create opportunities for prosperity and build a government founded on accountability and transparency,” he pledged.

He urged residents to support the PDP in 2027, saying their votes would return the state to the path of development.
