2027: Abuja infrastructure’ll shape voters’ decision, says Wike

Favour Ishember, Abuja

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that the ongoing infrastructure transformation across Abuja will significantly influence the choices of voters in the 2027 general elections, insisting that tangible development will speak louder than political rhetoric.

Wike made the remarks during an inspection of an ongoing road project in Gwagwalada Area Council, where he commended the contractor, Gilmo Engineering, for the pace and quality of work recorded on the project.

According to the minister, the road project is aimed at improving transportation, enhancing accessibility and raising the standard of living of residents in the densely populated community.

He expressed optimism that the contractor would meet the agreed completion deadline, which is expected to be in December.

Wike noted that the enthusiasm displayed by residents during the inspection underscored the importance of infrastructure development to the people, stressing that the essence of governance is to improve citizens’ welfare and make life more comfortable for them.

He also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the development of the Federal Capital Territory, saying the President has continued to provide the necessary support for the execution of critical infrastructure projects across Abuja.

Speaking on the 2027 general elections, the minister linked the positive response of residents to ongoing development projects with the electoral prospects of President Tinubu and other candidates who will be supported by the administration.

He maintained that residents benefiting from the projects would freely decide who to support at the polls based on the visible impact of government performance.

Wike dismissed suggestions that any future electoral victory for the administration would be a product of rigging, arguing that quality service delivery, infrastructure development and responsiveness to the needs of residents would naturally earn public confidence and political support.

On preparations for the 2027 electioneering campaign, the minister said political parties still have several months to strengthen their structures and mobilise supporters, noting that campaign activities have not yet reached the level witnessed ahead of the 2023 general elections.

He disclosed that he would soon inaugurate President Tinubu’s campaign team in the FCT and personally coordinate the President’s campaign across the territory before returning to his official duties as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike reaffirmed his unwavering support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu, expressing confidence that the administration’s ongoing infrastructure drive would continue to earn the confidence and support of residents.

His remarks come as the Federal Capital Territory continues to witness accelerated road construction and other major infrastructure projects across several communities under the current administration.
