Woman arrested for beating, injuring under age house maid in Anambra

25-year-old mother of twin, Mrs Chinyere Ifesinachi who reportedly beat, battered and inflicted injuries on the body, eyes and head of a 9-year-old housemaid for throwing her baby on the floor.
in Nnewi area Anambra State has been arrested by the police.

It was gathered that the nursng mother who has admitted to beating her house help out of anger, not only used cane to beat the underaged girl, but also employed the use of pestle, heated knife and other hard objects.

Recall that the video of the underaged girl went viral on social media over the weekend after she was accosted by some good spirited individuals who saw her while she was going to throw away bags of thrash and queried her to know the source of her injuries.

In the video, the girl who in a soft tone identified herself as Idimmachukwu, revealed that her injuries was as a result of the beating she received from “mama ejima”.

The videos also showed the swelling on her hand and eyes as well as the scars on her head.

The woman, a native of Alor town in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State and to a mam from Enugu State is said to have been delivered of twins who Idimmachukwu was helping to take care of.

The viral video led to the trace and arrest of the couple by the State Ministry of Women Affairs, in collaboration with the operatives of the Anambra State Police Command.

When interrogated, the suspect, Mrs Ifesinachi said she maltreated the young girl because she threw one of her twin babies on the ground, which got her provoked to beat her without mercy.

She acknowledging that she used both cane, heated knife and pestle to torture the underaged girl into her present condition.

The suspect pleaded for mercy, saying that she did not understand what came over her and why she went that far.

While claiming that it was the handiwork of the devil, she said, “Please forgive me, it is the handiwork of the devil.”

In their separate remarks, the parents of Idimmachukwu explained that their daughter left them in March this year to live with Aunty Chinyere Ifesinachi and her husband, because she recently gave birth to a set of twins.

They said they sent their daughter to live with the couple out of sympathy, since the woman was finding it difficult to look after her new babies and also cope with her house chores.

They described the incident as very unfortunate, regreting that it happened in less than two months that their daughter started living with them.

It was however gathered that Mrs Ifesinachi is a relative to Idimmachukwu’s mother.

In her reaction, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Ify Obinabo assured Idimmachukwu and her family of justic, saying that the little girl, who is currently in the hospital for medical attention, would not return to Ifesinachi’s family when she fully recovers.

While condemning the maltreatment as totally wrong and unacceptable, Obinabo warned that anyone caught abusing any child in Anambra state would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

She appreciated everyone who contributed in one way or the other to the discovery and rescue of the child, even as she advised the citizens to raise alarm anytime they notice what is not going well in their area.

It was further learnt that Nigerians in diaspora have paid off the first hospital bill of the child as she is still undergoing medical examinations and treatment in the hospital.

Meanwhile, the tge state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal and Investigative Department, from where the suspect will be charged to court.
