The Director General of, Imo State Consumer Protection Council, Hon. Mrs. Obioma Okafor has raised the need to create awareness for Consumer Rights And Needs in the society.
She stated this while speaking at the recently held World Consumer Rights Day with the THEME: “Empowering Consumers Through Clean Energy Transition”.
According to her ‘ We Must Raise Our Voices To Raise Awareness About Consumer Rights And Needs and ensure consumer rights are well protected in every way.
She noted that the Imo State Consumer Protection Council has launched s “an awareness program to ensure sustainable generation, distribution and usage of energy by the consumers”.
According Mrs. Okafor, “Knowing our rights as consumers is very important to enable us identify when our rights is trampled upon, when to raise our voices or take legal action against any producer or service provider that goes against our rights”
While delivering his address as the Guest Lecturer, a renowned professor from the Imo State University, Christian Ikechukwu Umeh posited that success of any business is based on consistent satisfaction of the consumers.
On the deplorable and epileptic energy supply in Nigeria, Professor Umeh pointed out the negative effects on businesses and households which now necessitates the search for alternative energy sources like solar systems.
Mrs Obioma Okafor has also gone the extra mile to make sure that there is a consumer protection desk in each of the local government areas in Imo State.
In his recommendation, Professor Umeh highlighted the role of the consumer as supreme because the absence of consumers will result in business failures.
It would be recalled that since her appointment in April 2020, by His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma, Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor has systematically and successfully steered the affairs of the Imo State Consumer Protection Council to enviable heights and has made sure that the right things are done in Imo State.
