AHMED MARI, Maiduguri

The Vice President-elect, Hon Kashim Shettima, has cast his vote in his Shettima Lawan  Kukawa 026  polling unit, of Lamsula Jabbamari ward of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), Borno state.

Senator Shettima at about 11. 00am was accredited within a few minutes after his arrival.

While commending the INEC over the early arrival of electoral materials and officials during the Governorship and State Assembly elections, Shettima is unlike in the Presidential and National Assembly elections where he waited till 12 noon before casting his vote due to late arrival of voting materials and INEC officials at his polling unit.

He said after going around the city, and despite some hiccups witnessed in the last election,  he believed that INEC is making efforts to address the issues,  noting that in the last election, he couldn’t vote till 12noon, but this time around he voted very early as possible due to quick arrival of officials and electoral materials.

He said that the beauty of the exercise is that no voter has been disenfranchised, adding that a lot of factors might be responsible for the low turnout of voters,  but expressed hope that voters were still expected to come out and vote.

He described the re-election bid of Governor Babagana Zulum,  as a force of nature adding that there is no Governor in Nigeria that has performed as Zulum did in the past three and half years.

“Zulum’s victory in the Governorship election is almost a foreclosed conclusion. We are in the course of recording tremendous victory by God’s grace in the Governorship election. Borno has been traditionally an APC State.  PDP has never won an election in Borno.  Prof. Zulum will record a tremendous victory in the election,” Shettima said.

Meanwhile, the Borno state Governor, Prof. Zulum has cast his vote at his Ajari 1 polling unit Mafa ward of  Mafa local government area of Borno state.

The governor, who was105 voters to be accredited out of 809 at the Ajari polling unit cast his vote at exactly 10:35 am.

Speaking shortly after casting his vote, Zulum said “compared to the last election there is an improvement, the INEC officials came out early and turn out is reasonable. It took me less than two minutes to be accredited. I think the INEC has done well”.

“I commend the efforts of the INEC in ensuring hitch-free exercise in the state, the election so far is impressive “, he added.

The Governor is jostling to retain his seat against  Mohammed Jajari of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labor Party candidate, Captain Ibrahim Mshelia Kadafir (rtd).

While in Mafa the home of Governor Zulum there was a massive turnout of voters who came to support the re-election bid of their son.

At Chigowa and Masheriff polling units of Masu ward, of Mafa and Ajari, voters were seen in their thousands waiting to cast their ballots.
