Security and Human Right Top Agenda as CSOs , NGOs brainstorm on development in LDCs

Security and human right  are top issues of concern at the National Conference on the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights where Civil Society Organisations CSOs and Non-Governmental Organizations NGOs discussed the critical role that these two key issues hold for development in Less Developed Countries LDCs.

The one-day conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abuja Nigeria had no doubt brought into focus the obligation of governments of all less endowed nations to promote and preserve the well being of its citizens at the front burner of national discourse.

Speaking at the event, Co-Chair Nigeria Working Group Dr Joel Bisina said that it is the obligation of government to promote and preserve the well being of its citizens.

The conference he said gives the participants the opportunity to discuss the importance of the principles, implementations and prospects of the voluntary principles on security and human rights.

He noted that prior to the launch of the Nigeria Working Group, the voluntary principles on security and human rights in June 2017, efforts to use these principles to address security and human right issues in Nigeria were not entirely successful.

He urged the Nigerian government to create the enabling environment for the working group to carry out its programs and operations through representative desk officials.

Some other speakers at the conference notably the Executive Secretary National Human Right Commission NHRC Mr  Tony Ojukwu said that that the Human Right Commission is working assiduously with these voluntary working groups in addressing human right issues in Nigeria.
