Reverse executive order, we’re satisfied with our monarchs – Iree, Igbajo indigenes tell Adeleke

In response to the executive order of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun stating that three monarchs should vacate their palaces, indigenes and king-makers of Iree and Igbajo have appealed to the governor to reverse the order.

They insisted that they are comfortable with their new kings– Aree of Iree, Oba Ademola Rapheal Oluponle, and Owa of Igbajo, Oba Adegboyega Famodun adding that the peace and interest of the town should be considered.

Recall that governor Adeleke ordered the review of all appointments of traditional rulers after July 17, 2022, thereby ordering the Aree of Iree, Owa of Igbajo and Akirun of Ikirun to vacate their respective palaces.

In a statement signed by the Head of Oyekun Ruling House, Iree, Pa Micheal Fajinmi on behalf of the five ruling houses, said the Iree community is peaceful and orderly.

He urged Governor Adeleke to allow the town to enjoy the breath of fresh air with the new King.

The statement read in part, “we congratulate his Excellency Senator Ademola Adeleke as the 6th Executive Governor of the state and we pray for a successful tenure, it is in this spirit of love and solidarity that the ruling houses in Iree respectfully draw your attention to your recently Executive order in respect of Aree of Iree throne.

“In the last 20 days, no single protest in any part of Iree, and people have been rejoicing in the nooks and crannies of the town, we challenge anyone to contradict this. Your Excellency, you can also send a delegation to the town to verify this wide acceptability. Over 16 people contested for the stool and definitely, and only one person will emerge.

“Oba Oluponnle has emerged and those who are not satisfied are already in court, they are the ones creating the impression of tension that does not exist in Iree, Aaree of Iree has been moving from markets to other strategic places in Iree with loud ovations.”

“We, therefore, appeal to the governor to review the Executive Order not to cause any crisis in the town and allow the judiciary to complete his process as those who are dissatisfied are already in court to seek redress.”

Also, the Owa-in-council and the Kingmakers have appealed to Governor Adeleke to support them in ensuring that nothing disrupts the peace and tranquility existing in Igbajo after the installation of the new Owa of Igbajoland Oba Adegboyega Famodun, Famodun 111.

In a press statement signed by the Kingmakers and given to the press, the kingmakers affirmed that the process that produced the king followed all laid down guidelines in the Owa of Igbajo chieftaincy declaration.

“On the announcement of the appointment or selection of Oba Adegboyega Famodun, Famodun 111, nobody can say that a fly was hurt in Igbajo.

“We all accepted his choice because we know it is only God that chooses kings. The presentation of the Staff of the Office followed three days after the completion of the traditional rites and the Ipebi program. Visitors to Igbajo on Thursday 24th of November, 2022 will see the joy and happiness radiating within the town and its people; it was unprecedented.

“Our appeal to the Governor is that he should not allow anyone to drag him into messy politics as the selection of our own Oba Adegboyega Famodun, Famodun 111 followed all laid down procedures. Igbajo the Citadel of the Brave is known for peaceful coexistence and communal cooperation in the running of the affairs of the town,” the statement stated.

Also, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has directed the dissolution of all non-statutory boards in the state.

The directive was contained in a memo to heads of ministries, departments and agencies by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon Teslim Igbalaye.

The memo stated that the MDAs should effect the dissolution of the statutory boards immediately.

“As a follow-up to the pronouncement of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, on Sunday, 27th November 2022, all non-statutory Boards, Commissions, and Parastatals including those of Tertiary Institutions (with exception of UNIOSUN) are hereby dissolved in the State forthwith.

“Consequently, all Accounting Officers of such Boards, Parastatals and Commissions are to take charge with immediate effect”, the directive said.
