Reps rattle Federal Mortgage Bank’s former MD

A former acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria FMBN Mr. Richard Esin has been sanctioned by the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts for what it called infractions bothering on the constitution.

In a ruling at Monday sitting of the Committee with FMBN executives, Chairman Hon. Wole Oke (PDP Osun) ordered  the former bank boss to refund monies collected as salary during his tenure for not doing what is constitutionaly required of him.

Oke reconked that for the FMBN not to render audited accounts to the years 2013-2017 represents a serious clog in the accountability posture of the present administration on the review and projection of the yearly budgets.

He asked Mr. Esin to justify the amounts he collected as wages during his tenure  without performing a major function for which he was made MD or refund such monies to the coffers of his employer.

 Esin was given 48 hrs to justify his actions and provide evidence of his claims of having rendered the audited accounts to the office of the Auditor-General of the federation or face the full wrath of the sanction.

The Committee also extended invitations to the minister of finance and the CBN governor to appear at its next hearing date to clear the air on the matter and also called for the appearance of the two external auditors of the FMBN to explain their roles in the non rendition or delay in furnishing the audited accounts.

In a related development, the committee impressed on the management of NISARL Micro Finance Bank to promptly extend it’s services to all the 774 local governments areas in the country so that it’s services of assisting small and medium husiness concerns could be enjoyed nationally.

Oke explained that despite not being funded by government, the micro finance bank was summoned based on a petition to the committee and in the spirit of fair hearing.
