Professional misconduct: MDCN tribunal sentences 3 doctors to 6 months suspension

For conducting themselves infamously in the professional respect and in the management of patients under their care, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, (MDCN) tribunal, setting in Abuja, has sentenced three Doctors to 6 months suspension each, from practice, to be running concurrently.

The medical Doctors, who were slammed with 4, 5  and 7 counts charges respectively, bothering on professional negligence, incompetence, malpractices and mismanagement of their patients, were found guilty of some of the charges and not guilty in others.

This is just as some of them were discharged and acquitted following their convincing defence by their counsels.

The chairman of the tribunal Prof. Abba Waziri Hassan who read the judgment at MDCN headquarter in Abuja, said, ” The tribunal has read all the facts, evidence and exhibits of the case, and considered all the circumstances of the case and the final written addresses by counsel on both sides, and from the totality of the evidence placed before the Tribunal, the tribunal finds as follows:

Count 1, guilty, Count 2, guilty

Count 3, not guilty Count 4, guilty Count 5, guilty.

“The Respondent, Dr. Robert Osas Ikhu-Omoregbe ( whose patient was Mrs Elizabeth Peter Ndueso, now deceased) is hereby convicted on count 1, 2,

4 and 5.

“The Respondent, Dr. Robert Osas Ikhu-Omoregbe having been convicted is hereby sentenced to 3 months suspension on count 1, 2, 4 and six months suspension on count 5 to run concurrently with immediate effect”.

“The tribunal having read all the facts, evidence and exhibits of the case, and having considered all the circumstances of the case, and from the totality of the evidence placed before it, the Tribunal finds as follows: Count 1, not guilty Count 2, not guilty Count 3, guilty Count 4, not guilty.

The Respondent, Dr. Abdul-Baki Abdulganiyu Ishola ( whose patient was one Alhaja Salimat Jawondo, now deceased) is hereby convicted of coup and admonished to be of good conduct in his professional practice.

The tribunal further found the respondent K. Olajide Bola ( whose patient was one Chidinma Mercy U, now deceased) guilty of all the 7 counts charge bothering on negligence, incompetence, mismanagement and others and sentenced him to 6 months suspension, to run concurrently.

While the respondent, Dr Gerald Nnwuegbuzie (who offered medical services to one Miss Lillian Nandi  Solomon) was discharged and acquitted of all the charges against him.

The suspended Doctors, according to the chairman of the tribunal, will return to service after the expiration of their suspension.
