UFOMBA UZUEGBU
Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has renewed its appeal for the prosecution of all those arrested in connection with oil theft and pipeline vandalism and if found guilty, be made to face the consequences.

Rising from its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, the union also urged the Government to sustain the current effort in restoring the vandalised pipeline and in increasing the nation’s crude oil production.
It charged the investigative panel also to carry out a thorough work that would end all forms of criminality in the sector.
A communique issued at the end of the meeting, decried incessant shortages of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) in the country, saying it has become a source of pain to the Nigerian people.
The communique signed by Comrades Festus Osifo and Lumumba Okugbawa, President and General Secretary, respectively,  blamed the government for allegedly demonstrating the high level of culpability in the unwholesome situation by its silence and unwillingness to frontally and publicly address the harrowing experiences of Nigerians in the current situation.
“NEC-in-Session, therefore, demands that the various security agencies, especially the men of Nigeria Customs and Immigration charged with manning the nation’s borders act professionally and in dictates to their oath of allegiance to stop the high rate of smuggling of the products across the West African countries”,it stated.
PENGASSAN also demanded that the various deports and other storage facilities especially those owned and operated by NNPC, be upgraded and made accessible to all operators to lift the products.
On Wages, Salaries, and Pension, NEC-in-Session viewed the recent clamour by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission to increase the salaries and allowances of top public office holders as highly insensitive and an affront to the struggling masses and the working class.
PENGASSAN expressed regret by the continuous payment of pensions to ex-governors and their deputies in states nearing insolvency.” More painful is the fact that many states are not paying the N30,000 national monthly minimum wage whose implementation commenced in 2019. Pensioners in some states have not been paid for 75 months or more with backlogs of unpaid salaries while others deduct workers” pension contributions and fail to remit to the Pension Fund Administrator which by law, is a criminal offense”, the communique further stated.
It called for the immediate stoppage of pensions to all political office holders and kill any idea of further increasing their salaries until they justify such increment by first putting the economy in a proper shape and lifting millions of Nigerians out of poverty.
