Osun sports’ll be developed to boost economy if elected -PDP deputy governorship candidate

Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Prince Kola Adewusi, has described the sports sector as an economy booster if explored well.

Adewusi, who decried the poor state of sporting facilities in Osun, said if the PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke, is elected as governor, there will be a drastic improvement in the state’s sports.

He spoke during a personality interview programme of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun State Chapter, in Osogbo on Wednesday.

Adewusi maintained that there are several economic, social, health and moral benefits in revamping Sports and talents hunt.

“Sports can generate fund for itself but it must first be put in a good state while the sector is handled by experienced and credible professional.

“One of our plans is by bringing back the zonal sports council and embarking on talent hunting from the grassroot whereby each local government will specialize in one area of sports it has comparative advantage.

“With sports, you can curb moral decadence. Also, sporting activities keep you younger as it radiates on the face. The benefits of sporting activities cannot be overemphasised. It keeps you alive. We ought to encourage ourselves to go into it,” he said.

Speaking on the loss of Osun athletes to other states, Adewusi said, “It’s unfortunate that athletes from our State have been acquired by other states and are winning laurels for them due to poor welfare and non availability of facilities and equipment they need.

“The stadium complex which was always full of several activities from day to dusk is now looking like a desert as a result of wrong pegs in the right holes. We have identified all this and we’re going to revive the sector. We will employ more coaches to train the young athletes and ensure that Osun State takes best athletes to national and international games.”

Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of Osun SWAN, Timothy Agbor appreciated the presence of Prince Adewusi and urged him to ensure that the party keeps to their promises if elected on July 16.
