The Osun State Government has honoured corps member, Diabuah Nduka with “Chairman State Honours Award” for paying school fees for five less-privileged students and also executed water well project at his serving Akoda Community in Ede Local Government.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Benedict Alabi, Governor Gboyega Oyetola also honoured another five corps members for executing projects at their various serving locations.
Among the project executed, corps member, Diabuah gave school materials for outstanding students in his subject including, school sandals, mathematical sets, notebooks, wrist watches, organizing talent hunts, and organized free extra mural lessons for SS1 and SS2 students which cummulate to N133,000.
The government also honoured Esther Ireti, who donated sanitary pad for 500 girls at Timehin High School, Osogbo, and donation of children rehabilitation centre for a motherless home in Osogbo.
Speaking, the Governor pledged support for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), giving priority attention to the welfare and safety of all members.
Others honoured are, Balero Eunice, Saguna Maryam, Tatoking Esther, and Olagunju Ifeoluwa.
Outgoing Corps Members in Osun State have been urged to be resolute and determined to earn a decent living by engaging in productive ventures.
The State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, Mr. Ayodele Adegoke, gave the advice during the passing out ceremony of 2019 Batch A Corps Members in Osogbo on Thursday.
He said 2,300 Corps members successfully completed the service year, while nine absconded and seven have their services extended for various misconduct which contravenes the provisions of the NYSC Act.
Adegoke said the scheme has continued to play the role of a partner in progress in the steady development of the State and the nation at large.
“Over the years, I note with pride, that our corps members have contributed immensely to the socio-economic developments of the state by rendering helping hands in the promotion of unity, good healthcare delivery system, agriculture, cultural integration, improved quality of education and charity services.”
He urged the outgoing corps members to look inwards and tap from their innate abilities and more especially the skills acquired through skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme in order to be self-reliant.
“Do not despise little beginning but strive to make the best of every opportunity that comes your way and takes solace in this common saying that little drops of water make a mighty ocean.
“No matter how challenging the situation may be, it is not enough reason for anyone of you to indulge in any form of criminal activities such as armed robbery, drug trafficking, internet fraud, money laundering, and rituals, rather, see the unemployment problem as a challenge which you must all overcome.”
