Osun: FG commissions 72-units housing estate, redeems house allocation pledge to 1994 AFCON winners

The Federal Government, on Monday commissioned 72-units housing project as the first phase of its National Housing Programme in Osun State.

This is as the federal government announced the fulfilment of its promise to allocate houses to the 22 members of Super Eagles who won the African cup of nations in 1994.

Commissioning the project at AIG Zone 2 Area, Abere in Osogbo, President Muhammadu Buhari noted that the motive was beyond improving the human condition of living, but it also provides an opportunity to fulfil its pledge to her citizens.

The President who was represented the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola said the federal government fulfillment of vow to the super eagles’ heroes is better late than never.

He said, “On behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, it is a great honour for me to redeem the promise Nigeria made to these patriotic Nigerians, even if belatedly. Anyone of them can pick houses from any of the 36 states, I invite you to pick from that which is being commissioned today. We had Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde amongst other super stars from our state.

“As the saying goes, it is better late than never and I have approved allocation to redeem the outstanding allocation to 22 members of the Super Eagles in National Housing Estate located in their state of choice, and their keys and title documents will be handed over at the commissioning in their state while the remainder of the housing is allocated to willing members of the public.”

The president enjoined prospective house owners and residents of the estate to maintain the facilities in the best possible way and beautify it by planting trees.

In his remarks, Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola described the housing project as a laudable one

The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Hon. Nathaniel Agunbiade urged residents of the state to take advantage of the houses, adding that it is first come, first served.

The housing project consists of 72-units of Housing comprising, 24-units in condominium (1 bedroom-4, 2bedroom-16, 3 bedroom-4), 28-units 2 (Two) Bedroom and 20-units 3 (Three) Bedroom bungalows.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, represented by the Director of Urban and Regional Development of the Federal Ministry of Works and House, Mr. Moyoade Olasunkanmi Dumoye gave the guidelines for purchase.

Fashola explained that payment for the housing units which is open for all could be paid at once or in installments.

“We have offered all these housing units to members of the general public in a non-discriminatory way by opening the National Housing Portal at https://nhp.worksandhousing.gov.ng/ to ensure that those interested are not inhibited by any artificial obstacles and allocations will be made on the basis of those who apply and pay on a first come, first served basis.

“While we welcome those who can afford to pay outright, it is not a condition for eligibility and we have offered flexible payment options like mortgages and rent to own which we encourage applicants to pursue,” he stated.
