Stakeholders in the education sector in Ondo State have hailed the moves by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to resuscitate the free shuttle buses for school children.

They described the development as part of efforts to boost education in the state.

According to a retired School Principal, Alhaji Jimoh Ayegboka, free shuttle buses for school children policy is a people-oriented programme particularly for the downtrodden.

The educationist recounted that the number of students and pupils had reduced tremendously while punctuality to schools had been negatively affected since the abolition of the programme.

It would be recalled that the Shuttle Buses Scheme was aborted last year after the nationwide #EndSars protest in which many Buses belonging to the state government were completely burnt by irate protesters.

A community leader, Mr. Ade Ibrahim gave kudos to Akeredolu for listening to the yearning, requests and aspirations of the people of Ondo State on education policies. Ibrahim noted that education is the bedrock of development in any nation. He called on Governor to improve the service of the shuttle buses and extend it to other communities like Oyin,Ogbagi, and Irun Akoko for children of the poor to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

A casual worker of one of the abandoned buses, Mrs. Khadija Laisi, who said she had been jobless since last year when the scheme was abolished expressed joy and happiness on the good news of its resuscitation, saying she would be engaged again to cater for her family.
