PAMELA EBOH, Awka

Anambra state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP may be squealing for a total overhaul of the party following its failure to clinch the number seat during the recently concluded November 6 governorship election in the state.

News Express gathered that those to be hit on the roll call are party members who allegedly masterminded the sabotage against the party in the course of the governorship election.

It was learnt that it was on the strength of the planned moves, that the Director General of Valentine Ozigbo Campaign Organisation, Dr Alex Obiogbolu allegedly exited the party to avoid the sledgevhammer..

Feelers also have it that Obiogbolu is eyeing the Anambra North senatorial seat come 2023 and believes APGA is the only ladder to achieving such feat as the party in power.

But the former campaign DG, yesterday denied dumping the party to join the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA.

Speaking at the stakeholders meeting of the party  held in Awka, the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the last election Mr Valentine Ozigbo noted that ahead of the conduct of the state party Congress, the party needs cleansing.

He observed that a lot of black legs in the party have been the bane of the party’s failures in most elections.

Ozigbo said, “You all know the contributions that I made for the progress of the party and in the last National Convention you all know that I was the highest donor and sponsor and I am ready to do more for the party in future.

“But there is the need for us to do a great clean up in the party and ensure that those who are not loyal party members have to leave us and if it is only few of us are in the party that are loyal that would be good for us  before the state Congress.

“I am ready to be part of the reconciliation process and resolve any issue or factions in the party and for those who are not loyal party members would know what to do.”

Speaking shortly after the stakeholders meeting of the party the Chairman, Chief Ndubuisi Nwogbo said that the party would set up a committee to resolve all gray areas of the party before the expected state party Congress.

“He noted that the party is poised towards ensuring that those who are loyal and committed to the party would remain while those who do not want peace and progress in the party should find an alternative.

He confirmed that the Director General of Ozigbo Campaign Organization Dr Alex Obiogbolu has left the party but failed to say if he has joined APGA.

When contacted, Dr Obiogbolu denied joining APGA, saying that he only resigned from his party, PDP.

He said that he has written the party leaderships on his resignation, adding,  “No I have only resigned from the party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and I have not joined any party, let alone APGA.

“I am still consulting and at the appropriate time I will make public where I am going to.

“I resigned from the party because of the level of indiscipline in the party, PDP but for someone to say that I have joined APGA is not true and I have handed over my letter of resignation to the leadership of the party.”

Effort to speak with Ozigbo on the defection of his DG did mot make headway, as he left immediately after the meeting.
