Governor Hope Uzodimma’s generosity to the workers in Imo State is highly appreciated as the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the State has promised that such show of love to their colleagues will not go unrewarded.

They have therefore pledged their unalloyed support to the government of Governor Uzodimma which they said has done things never experienced by workers in the State before.

The NLC Imo State Chapter led by its Chairman, Rev. Nwansi Philip gave the commitment when he led his officials to pay a thank you visit to Governor Uzodimma at the Government House Owerri in appreciation of the Governor’s directive that workers in Imo State will receive 100 per cent of their basic salary as 13th month pay  in addition to other packages.

Addressing the NLC Executive at the New Executive Council Chambers, the Governor thanked them for coming and congratulated the Chairman for emerging in a rancour free election.

He commended him for the way he handled NLC as Chairman in acting capacity and predicted that now that he is the substantive Chairman, he will “perform creditably well.”

The Governor told Labour leaders that he has a lot of interest in the welfare of Imo workers and as such, they should see his office as an extension of their own and feel free to come at any time to reason with him on workers welfare and concerns.

He reiterated his support to them at all times as long as the interest of the State is paramount.

Governor Uzodimma  also commended them for the harmonious relationship between Labour and Government. “It is as a result of the seriousness we attached to Labour matters that we created the New Ministry of Labour and Productivity.”

He used the opportunity to remind the leadership of the Labour in the State that his Shared Prosperity Government had before now provided free transport scheme for workers, in-house clinic within the Secretariat, restored public water and power supply and automated salary payment,  among others.

He said “Labour is about reciprocity and not necessarily about quarrels and fighting, but a matter of dialogue that will help resolve issues as a joint body.”

Earlier, Rev. Nwansi said they came to thank the Governor for his prompt response to the yearnings of the workers, particularly the promises he made to them towards their welfare and the celebration of the yuletide.

He praised the Governor for restoring peace in Imo State despite the wave of orchestrated insecurity witnessed in the State in recent times.

He reiterated that their support to the government of Governor Uzodimma will be total, promising that they “will never let him down as the Governor of Imo State.”

Members of the executive that visited were: Rev. Nwansi Philip – State Chairman, Comrd. George Ofoegbu  – Treasurer, Comrd. Mbakwe Augustine – Vice Chairman, Comrd. Atumnonye Victor  –  Asst. Secretary, Comrd. Marcus Opara  – Ex-officio, Comrd. Uche Chigaemezu Nwaigwe  –  State Auditor,
