Obiora Ifoh, Abuja

Senator representing Kogi West and member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Smart Adeyemi has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, the APC over failure to secure the lives of its citizens.

Adeyemi, speaking at the Parliament, in a video clip obtained by us, said the country is on fire, adding that, the Senate should shut down the National Assembly if it cannot secure the lives of Nigerians.  He said: “It has come to a time where truth will become like a torchlight in the midst of silence. We need not run away from the fact that more than ever before from the history of our nation, this is the worse instability we are facing.

In fact, this is worse than the civil war. Continuing, he said: “We who are supporters of the APC can no longer keep quiet, Mr President must rise to the occasion. The nation is on fire. Mr president must bring in foreign support to help Nigeria fight insecurity. “All of us are being threatened, our families, our nation, our states. Our children are not free, we can no longer sleep with our eyes closed. Our security system has collapsed. Every part of the country is on fire, from the North to the South, nobody is safe.

“The president must know that this a bad time for our nation, we should close the National Assembly, let’s shut down the National Assembly if we cannot safe this country, we stay in our homes, our country is bleeding. People are in poverty, there is no food, people are hungry, insecurity is threatening us. We cannot pretend, it is better we are not here than to sit down and watch our people being killed on a daily basis

meanwhile, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s has said that the public confession by the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai was an authentication that the All Progressives Congress (APC) ministration knows the whereabouts and plans of the terrorists ravaging the nation but deliberately refuse to act.

The party also said the revelation by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, that some members of the APC-led Federal Executive Council frustrated his request to install security surveillance equipment to avert terrorist attack on the Kaduna-Abuja rail track confirms that the APC administration has been creating safety nets for terrorists to freely operate in our country.

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party said, “In exposing the APC government which he is part of, Mallam el-Rufai said, “we know where their camps are, we know where they are, the SSS has their phone numbers, they listen to them and they give me report…”

“In his own confession, the Minister of Transportation said “We knew what the problems will be. We knew we needed to have digital security equipment…I warned that lives will be lost and now lives are lost… When you come with sincerity to government and your colleagues are stopping you, it is annoying”.

“These revelations from high-ranking APC public officials who are in the position to know is troubling as they are unequivocal confirmation that APC leaders are in league with terrorists.

“It is therefore not surprising that President Muhammadu Buhari insists on retaining a self-confessed terrorist apologist, Dr. Isa Pantami to continue to head the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy which is indispensable in any meaningful fight against terrorism in the country.

“Nigerians will recall that the PDP has variously and consistently requested for a total overhaul and change of guard at the Ministry of Communications, which advice, like every other from Nigerians have been ignored, arising from the culture of arrogance in failure of the APC.

“The fact that the Buhari-led government atrociously refused to act despite having full intelligence on the whereabouts as well as the plans of the terrorists confirms grave complicity and conspiracy against our nation at the very top level of the APC government’s security command and control coordination structure.

“It also confirms that the APC government has conceded sovereignty over a part of our country to terrorists who, as a former APC leader confessed, were brought from neighboring countries by the APC as “political mercenaries” to rig the 2019 general elections.

“That informs why the APC is deliberately suppressing information and exposing our brave and gallant armed forces to harm’s way while watching innocent Nigerians perish in the hands of terrorists.

“This is consistent with the character of the APC administration which places low or no premium on the lives of Nigerians as evidenced in the huge number of our compatriots killed since the APC took over governance in 2015. To the APC government; every Nigerian is a dot in circle which is considered inconsequential.

“This also apparently reveals why the APC administration has refused to adequately seek or accept assistance from foreign nations, even when offered, to track and plug sources of funding for terrorism in our country.

“In any case, Nigerians can recall how ahead of the 2019 elections, Governor el-Rufai declared that “those that are calling for anyone to come and intervene in Nigeria, we are waiting for the persons that will come and intervene, they will go back in body bags”. The question to ask is, who were those that el-Rufai had in mind will implement his body bag threat?

“It is clear that the APC is complicit in the many acts of terrorism in our country. Nigerians should therefore be united in ensuring that the APC is voted out of power in 2023 so that our nation can breathe a new lease of life.”

Also, The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Iyorchia Ayu has lamented that insecurity in Nigeria is taking heavy toll on Nigerians and that it is being cut off physically by terrorists.

The PDP chairman however pledged that the incoming government under the party will rescue the country, re-unite the people and put an end to the carnage going on in the country.

Ayu made the declaration Thursday at Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue state, during the burial of a Speaker of the House of Representatives in Second Republic, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Akaai Chaha.

He regretted the collapse of security in the country, and the attendant bloodshed, saying Nigeria has never had it so bad.

According to Ayu, “The task before a new PDP Federal Government will be to re-unite the people, put an end to the incessant bloodshed and restart the development of the country.”

Speaking further in his funeral oration, the former senate president said it was shameful that Nigeria was being cut off physically from the centre by terrorists.

His words: “It’s a shame that Nigeria is being cut off physically by terrorists. Nigerians can’t travel by road. They can’t travel by rail. And they can’t travel by air, either. Our airports are now prime targets.

“PDP must return peace and security to this country. There is too much carnage under the current administration. The new PDP government will do everything possible to make this carnage stops.”

He described the late elder statesman as a “mentor, torch-bearer and shining star” who believed in unity and the politics of development.

Ayu went on: “He was a teacher and  torchbearer who mentored many. And in politics, he was a shining-light who opened the door for the younger generations of Tiv elite.”

“He inspired us to look up, to dream big and today, we too have become leaders. As torchbearers also, we must inspire the younger generations to dream big and contribute their quota in making Benue and Nigeria great,” he added.

Harping on united action, Ayu said it was incumbent on the political elite in the state to close ranks and work together, stressing: “If we are united, there is nothing that we can’t do; and even our enemies will fail in their evil designs.”

He urged the people to uphold the virtues that Chaha held dear while alive, and prayed God to grant the departed eternal rest and comfort the family.
