Nigeria Customs Service seizes drugs, 94 bales of used clothing, others with DPV of N232m

 

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit, Zone “B’’ in Kaduna, seized contraband worth N232,530,050:42 between  March 23  and April 25 within its area of operation.

 

Briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Kaduna, the Comptroller, NCS, Federal Operations Unit, Zone “B” Kaduna, Mr Albashir Hamisu, that 92 seizures were recorded by the unit within the  period including twelve vehicles.

 

Hamisu said that while seven of the vehicles seized were being smuggled into the country through unapproved routes, the remaining five were used to convey unregistered drugs and other contrabands.

 

He said that some of the smugglers intercepted concealed bags of rice among bags of beans to avoid detection.

 

The comptroller listed other seized items to include 99,000 tablets of unregistered Sifdol 50mg and 120,000 tablets of unregistered Ladinax drugs

 

Hamisu said that operatives of the unit also intercepted smugglers with premium motor spirit (PMS) in 303 gallons of 25 litres being smuggled outside of Nigeria.

 

He said that operatives foiled the smuggling of foreign vegetable oil in 22 gallons of 25 litres into Nigeria.

 

The comptroller further said that his men also seized 642 cartons of foreign spaghetti and macaroni as well as 1,314 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice.

 

Hamisu said that other items seized included 49 units of used tyres, 10 cartons of foreign fruit juice and bales of used clothing.

 

He appreciated members of the public for their cooperation in providing information on the activities of smugglers and solicited for more support.

 

The comptroller said that the Federal Government had opened two border posts within the zone in Kamba and Jibiya and urged the people to engage in legitimate business

 

Hamisu also thank the FG and NCS management for the recent promotion of officers saying this would further motivate them to give their best in the performance of the duty. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

 

 

 

Dr. Akwa said the signing of the MOU with the Government of Imo State will go a long way in facilitating the completion of the roads and commended Governor Uzodimma for the initiative.

 

 

 

He specifically thanked the Governor for his concern for his people, his populist-oriented programmes and landmark projects in Imo within a short period in office, noting that Governor Uzodimma has “brought a sense of fulfillment to the expectation of Imo people.”

 

 

 

Speaking at the site of one of the roads –  Avu/Etekuru/Ohaji/Egbema road where work is progressing properly, Dr. Akwa informed that the forensic audit of NDDC was instrumental to exposing some of the abandoned projects including roads.

 

 

 

He then noted: “When the Governor showed interest to help NDDC and the people of Imo State to fix the roads we were excited and decided to quickly partner with the Government of Imo State.”

 

 

 

He however urged the people to give the contractors all the support they need to get the project delivered within record time, saying the economic benefit of the road to the people and other road users cannot be underestimated.

 

 

 

Dr. Akwa used the opportunity to commiserate with the State Government on the unfortunate fire incident that took the lives of many people at Abaezi in Ohaji/Egbema weekend and prayed for the repose of their souls.

 

 

 

Highlights of the ceremony was the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding by the State Government represented by Governor Uzodimma and the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Cosmos Iwu and the NDDC represented by the CEO,  Dr. Akwa and Director Legal Services,  Barr. Stephen Ighoyemu.

 

 

 

The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prof Placid Njoku, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie, other Imo State top government officials and management staff of the NDDC witnessed the ceremony.
