The newly inaugurated speaker for the 8th Osun State assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun has announced that all bills passed and assented between August and November by previous administration will be reviewed.
According to him, the house received reports and records of several bills assented into laws “which contain obnoxious provisions and clauses that may not be in the best interest of the state.”
The speaker stated this while delivering his inaugural speech on Tuesday at the State Assembly Complex, Osogbo.
This is as he directed the Clerk of the House to provide all bills passed and assented during the stated period.
Egbedun called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to submit to the house innovative executive bills on several issues of public interest, like the domestication of Nigeria’s StartUp Act, among others.
“We are aware that the Governor has finalised certain draft bills to drive his development agenda. We are desirous of fast tracking these efforts of the Governor so that Osun people can benefit from the growing foreign direct investment in the concerned sectors,” he stated.
The Speaker promised to work assiduously with the executive arm and other members of the assembly to move the state forward.
Governor Adeleke had earlier inaugurated the 8th state assembly, declaring its first session.
The governor called for the support of the legislative arm to actualise his administration’s five-point agenda.
“We hope to fast track the realisation of our five point agenda. That goal is only achievable with a supportive Assembly. The exercise of your power for the people and public good my solicitation.
“This 8th Assembly has a golden opportunity to be a strong partner with us in the task of building a new Osun state. We share common views and visions on how to make Osun great.
“We are mostly products of the same movement. Our movement is focussed on defeating poverty, expanding development, building prosperity and growing the Osun economy,” he said.
