Low turnout of voters in Bauchi Guber, State Assembly election

The State gubernatorial and State Assembly election In Bauchi was greeted with a low turnout of voters at the various polling units across the State.

In Bauchi Central Senatorial District where Our Correspondent monitored the situation gathered that the exercise witnessed the early arrival of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and election materials.

According to reports in the polling units, accreditation and voting exercises commenced around eight O’clock in many of the polling units visited in the morning.

At 015 Ungwan Wakili polling unit at Soro Community in Darazo local government, electorates gathered at the venue waiting patiently to cast their votes, but accreditation and voting were yet to commence because the INEC officials were still putting things in order.

Also at 001 Zagi-fadare polling unit, adjacent to the Emir of Misau’s palace in Misau local government, accreditation, and voting commenced simultaneously at 8 am with the Bimodal Voters Accredited System (BVAS) working well without hitches to delay the ongoing exercise, however, the turnout was not impressive.

However, at the 003 Zirami Primary polling unit in Giade local government which is the voting unit of the APC Gubernatorial candidate. There was a massive turnout of voters, including a large turnout of women who were seen casting their votes. At the time of filling this report, the BVAS machines were working perfectly, without hitches.

An APC agent at the polling unit, Hussein Haruna, said that the voting process commenced as early as 8.30 am with a massive turnout of voters. He said that the BVAS machines were working well without challenges, except for those who had different facial identities.

Speaking to our Correspondent, a PDP agent at the polling unit, Hassan Musa said, ” the exercise is going smoothly without any challenge, unlike what played out during the Presidential and National Assembly election where some of the BVAS malfunctioned. This time around, INEC has kept to their promise of BVAS are improved upon and this what we see here today”

In all the polling units visited, there were security operatives on ground, to forestall any breakdown of law and order. As of the time of filling this report, there was no record of any eruption or violence and thus, the voting process progressed peacefully.
