Lagos Guber: Sanwo-Olu wins polling unit as Obasa projects victory for APC

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has won his Polling Unit (Unit 006, Ward E3, Eiyekole, Lagos Island).

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu along side his wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu voted at 10:18am, saying the electoral process was not meant to be violent.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa expressed optimism that his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win the governorship and House of Assembly elections in the State.

Going by the results posted by an aide to the Governor, Mr Jubril Gawat at Sanwo-Olu’s polling unit APC – 121, PDP – 01 abd LP – 02.

For the State House of Assembly APC – 120, PDP – 03 abs LP – 02.

The Governor who arrived at 10:13am exercised his franchise at Eiyekole Polling Unit, St. Stephen Primary School, Lagos Island local government.

The Governor who spoke to journalists shortly after voting, stated that the process was not meant to be violent one.

The Governor said, “We have just voted this morning. I’m happy with the turn out of voters. We can see that INEC came out on time.”

He added, “I think it is time for us as people to see this process as not meant to be a process for violence. This contest is about peace, progress and prosperity about our State and the country as a whole.

“I advise everyone to be able to conduct ourselves as family,” he stated.

Commenting on a viral video on social media over alleged vote suppression, the Governor said, he would not comment on it as it was unverifiable.

He noted, “We have seen a disturbing video which is not verifiable. I can’t comment on that but it (election) has been calm.

“All our security agencies are vigilant and it is devoid of acrimony and intimidation, that is acceptable,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

Obasa spoke with journalists on Saturday after casting his vote at Unit 019, Ward E, Oluwole Olaniyan Street, Agege, saying he believes that Allah would crown the efforts of the APC with success.

“APC will be declared winner in both the governorship and House of Assembly elections. We are certain of victory. We voted for and won the presidential election. So we strongly believe in Almighty Allah and we know He will crown our efforts with success,” he said.

In a release by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr Eromosele Ebhomele, Obasa described the security deployment for the exercise as very impressive.

“I can see a lot of them around and I think it is very good. It’s very impressive and I hope it will be sustained till the end of the exercise,” Obasa said as he expressed hope that more voters would turn out before the end of the exercise.

“We are still very hopeful that many of our people would come out before the end of the exercise.

“Majority of those we have here are youth. So we can confirm that the youth have turned up. But we are not particular about demography. We are talking about everyone qualified to vote.

Asked what the youth should expect from him going forward, the Speaker said: “We have been working together with the youth and there is a strong collaboration. They have access to us and we are always open. We have always worked together and we will continue to attend to their requests.”
