Kyari’s US Extradition Suit: Court fixed Judgement for August 29

CHIGO IKPO, Abuja

After months of hearings on the Suit by the Federal Government, seeking to extradite suspended DCP Abba Kyari to the United States to face trial on allegations of fraud, money laundering and identity theft, the Federal High Court has fixed the Judgement for 29th August.

Justice Inyang Ekwo adjourned the case to August 29 after hearing from both parties on the Plenary Objection filled by DCP Kyari’s legal team, questioning the legitimacy of the application for extradition, filled by the Attorney-General of the Federation.

Defence counsel for Abba Kyari, Nureni Jimoh (SAN) said that the extradition process lacked merit, saying that the Arrest warrant was not signed and therefore was not authenticated. He further added that the allegations against his client was not enough to warrant extradition to the United States, stating further evidence to prove his client’s innocence.

Mr. Pius Akuta who is the counsel for the Federal Government said that the case has gone to a certain level and should not be drawn back.

The Judge adjourned the case for August 29, 2022.
