International Day of The Girl Child: Lagos APWEN advises girl children on responsibilities

The Chairman, Association of Professional Women Engineers (APWEN)Lagos Chapter, Monsurah Abimbola Alagbe, has advised girls  to be obedient children to their parents, teachers, and elders and face their s studies squarely.

The Lagos AWEN chairman gave the advice in her message to the the girl children at the commemoration of the 2022 International Day Of The Girl Child held at Fagba junior Grammar School, Iju on Tuesday.

“As girls we are entitled to many rights, to quality education, working system, good government policies, violent free environment, physical and mental wellness in order to get our potentials as future leaders fulfilled. On the other hand, we as girls need to discharge some responsibilities to harness and maximise all these rights when provided”, she said.

According to her, focusing on studies is a great responsibility of the girl children “as education is the best legacy one can get, and the given right should be judiciously used”

“ Your time is indeed now to believe in whatever dreams you have, no matter how big they are while harnessing all the rights given, and spread your wings to reach that greatness in the future. You truly can achieve  all that you focus on, and put your mind in”, APWEN chairman said.

She stated thatas female Engineers and advocates of STEM, they “have the general mission to promote quality of lives with all our activities”, adding that apart from this year’s International theme:. “Our Time is Now – Our Rights, Our Future”, Lagos Chapter has dded its  own sub-theme: “Not Too Young For Responsibilities”.

She pointed out that this theme spoke volume “for whatever we are exposed to moulds the future, and it’s only wise and important that we make the right use of our time now to get a worthwhile, and sustainable future”.
