The Federal Lawmaker representing Afipo North/South Constituency Ebonyi State in the House of Representative Abuja Chief Idu Igariwey, has donated 60 copies of United Kingdom Medical Journals to the School of Nursing /Midwifery Mater Hospital Afikpo geared towards boosting the competence of its medical personnel .
Chief Igariwey who doubles as the Vice Chairman House Committee on Appropriation made the donation recently when he paid a visit to the Medical School.
The Lawmaker said that the gesture was aimed at enhancing the competence of medical personnel of the school in tandem with International best standards.
Chief Igariwey recalled that in the course of his trip to United Kingdom, he subscribed to the latest academic journals in Britain to boost the competence of Nigerian trained medical personnel .
“By January to December 2021, I had received a total of 60 copies of United Kingdom academic medical journals from different branches of Medicine ”
Chief Igariwey has through Legislative Constituency Funds intervened in various sectorial projects ranging from education, roads construction /rehabilitation, Health-care delivery, Human Empowerment, provision of portable water and installation of street lights among others.
Receiving the Journals, the Administrator of Mater Misericordiae hospital Afikpo Reverend Father Simon Esseni, commended the Federal Lawmaker for his benevolence and prayed for God guidance in all his programmes and policies.
The Hospital Administrator disclosed that the School will soon be upgraded to Mater Misericordiae College of Health Sciences to afford the school the opportunity of training students in other para-medical courses .
According to him, “the accreditation team notified the school management to mobilize academic journals as a pre-requisite for accreditation ”
