Eden Hazard has announced his retirement from international football following Belgium’s group-stage exit at the World Cup in Qatar.
Hazard, 31, was unable to recapture his best form in the tournament and was part of a team that finished third in Group F behind Morocco and Croatia.
The Real Madrid forward featured 126 times for his country and scored 33 goals, but was unable to bring success to the Red Devils despite being the talisman of their golden generation.
His biggest achievement for Belgium was a third-place finish at the 2018 World Cup, where he featured in a 1-0 semi-final loss to France.
Hazard took to Instagram to announce his retirement, where he thanked his compatriots for their support.
He said: “Today we turn a page. Thank you for your love. Thank you for your unmatched support. Thank you for all the joyous moments we’ve shared since 2008.
“Today I decided to put an end to my career as an international. The next generation is ready. I’m going to miss you guys so much.”
