Group petitions IGP/DG-DSS, over alleged disruption of campaigns of opposition parties by Ebonyi State Govt

A Group codenamed ‘Directorate of Volunteers, NGOs and Support Groups of the PDP Governorship Candidate Ebonyi State Dr Ifeanyi Odii, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police [IGP]  Usman Alkali Baba, and the Director General Department of Security Services Alhaji Yusuf Maggaji, over alleged calculated attempt by Ebonyi State government to  disrupt political campaigns of opposition parties.

 

The Director of the Group Hon Prince Darlington Peter Onwe, made the disclosure at the weekend while briefing newsmen   at the PDP Governorship campaign  Secretariat abakaliki.

 

The petition to the IGP , was coming  24 hours after the All Progressive Grand Alliance /APGA alledged that  Ebubegu security outfit, masterminded the attack of it’s governorship candidate Professor  Benard Odoh and his convoy along Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway last Thursday.

 

‘Therefore the Inspector General of Police, Director General of DSS, should take note and call Ebonyi State Government to order before it is too late’

 

‘No wonder, there is now a deliberate efforts to suppress opposition parties especially the People’s Democratic Party /PDP, from exercising their fundamental rights to lawful assemble and political campaigns’

 

According to the Support Group, ‘if this unnecessary provocation continues, our volunteers and supporters will be left with no option than to meet every actions with equal and opposite reaction’

 

‘Against this backdrop, it is no doubt that the State government was using several guise including state forces to resist, frustrate and disrupt political campaigns of opposition parties’

 

‘This is highly worrisome as it is nothing but an invitation to anarchy, breakdown of law and order if nothing is done urgently’

 

Hon Peter Onwe expressed regret that primary, secondary health institutions in the State have been reduced to sorry state, while high rising poverty index and poor ease of doing business remains unbearable.

 

‘Our Directorate will stop at nothing legitimate to foil and respond to any further provocation including enforcing fundamental political rights within the confines of the Law’

 

The Directorate of Volunteers and Support Groups enjoined all eligible Ebonyians to shun all forms of intimidation, vilification and suppression to vote for PDP in the forthcoming election.
