The Chief Missioner, Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society (NASFAT), Imam Abdul-Azeez Onike, has enjoined Muslims to start observing six days of shawwal fasting in order to free themselves fro the shackles of shaytan.

Imam Onike, who made the plea in his post-Ramadan message, said the observance of six days of shawwal fsting was in accordance with the sayings of the Holy Prophet Muhammed who says: “Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan and then follows it with six days of fasting in the month of Shawwal, it will be as if he fasted for the entire year.”

“It was also narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah with the wording: “Fasting for the month of Ramadan brings the reward of ten like it, and fasting for six days brings the reward of two months, and that is the fasting of the whole year.

“…….My brothers and sisters, delay is dangerous because time really flies! Postponing your 6 days of Shawwal may eventually make you miss the golden opportunity of six equaling 355 (including Ramadan).

“In addition to the benefit of reward of a year fasting, in sha’a Allah, fasting six days of Shawwal makes.up for any shortfall in a person’s obligatory Ramadan fasts, since no one is free of shortcomings or sins that may have a negative effect on his fasting.

“Moreover, it does not have to be for 6 consecutive days, you can stagger it, as long as it all falls in the month of Shawwal.

“Note however that, since this 6 days Shawwal fasting is supererogatory, a missed Ramadan fasting must be repaid before its observation, The obligatory prayer takes precedence over nafl (supererogatory) prayer” (Al-Munajjid)” , the NASFAT Chief Missioner added.
