Flood: NEMA,NASS Member flag-off distribution of relief materials to flood victims in Ikwo constituency Ebonyi State

CLEMENT NNACHI, Abakaliki

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency Ebonyi State Hon Chinedu Ogah, has distributed relief materials to victims of flood disaster in Ikwo constituency Ebonyi State.

The victims who hail from Ekpomaka, Inyimagu, Igbudu, Echara communities in Ikwo Local Government Areas of the State, received items ranging from mattresses, blankets, 600 bags of rice, beans, salt, ceiling boards, zinc, clothing’s, among others.

Flagging off the Distribution of the Relief Materials, the Director General of NEMA Mr Mustafa Habib Ahmed, represented by the Acting Zonal Cordinator South- East Zone Mr Thickman Tanimu, ,said that the event was direct distribution of relief materials to the victims”

“Over 50,000 people were affected by flood in Ebonyi State, in Ikwo/Ezza Federal Constituency over 40,000 were affected with 20,000 persons displaced”

“We are here today on invitation of Hon Member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Constituency Comrade Chinedu Ogah, to distribute relief materials supplied by the Federal Government,”

‘Ikwo was the most devastated areas in Ebonyi State, Proper, assessment/enumeration were conducted, relief materials were supplied by NEMA, we are here to do direct distribution of this relief items”

“The Federal Lawmaker representing Ikwo/Ezza South Constituency Hon Ogah, earlier invited NEMA to conduct assessment of victims and materials damaged”

“More relief materials are on the way, Hon Ogah is not relenting in making sure that the material get to all the victims”

Earlier in a speech, the Member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency in the House of Representative and Facilitator of the programme Hon Chinedu Ogah, disclosed that NEMA Officials took inventory of the victims and level of of devastation .

Hon Ogah who doubles as the Deputy Chairman House of Representative Committee on Poverty Alleviation, assured that more relief materials were in the offing.

“I appreciate Enugu Zonal Office of NEMA for their commitment towards assisting the flood victims”

” we moved a motion in the National Assembly that attracted this relief materials”

“300 bags were approved, I added additional 300 bags, if we bring the victims to abakaliki, we can not achieve result, we decided to come to the communities to meet with the victims directly”

“You can see for yourself, hear from the victims, attest for yourself, we together with Officials from NEMA shared the materials to make sure it get to them,

” this people here are the ones we stand with their mandate in the National Assembly,

Hon Ogah urged the people to continue to support the APC led Federal Government, by voting for all candidates of the party especially the party Presidential Candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governorship Candidate Hon Francis Nwifuru, during the forthcoming 2023 general election.

Speaking against the backdrop of enduring peace in the constituency, Hon Ogah said he was intensifying efforts to make sure that the boundary issues between Cross River and Ebonyi State were resolved.

Hon Ogah reiterated that efforts were in top gear to enhance ‘All Round Rice Farming” by farmers in the constituency”

“We are doing Survey Statistical Analysis, to know the particular method that fit our land, after that we meet the Minister of Water Resources”

“We are making sure that we engage the youths through entrepreneurship, to make them self reliant and resourceful to themselves”

The event was witnessed by officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Orji Douglas, Stakeholders of the community, women, youths, elders/opinion leaders, and victims of the flood disaster among others.

It would be recalled that over 50,000 flood victims in Ebonyi State were affected during the 2022 flood menace that ravaged various communities and Local Governments across the country.
