FG Commences mobile skills training of unemployed youths, in Imo State

VICTOR  DURUAMAKU, Owerri

The Federal Government  has begun a mobile skills training  of unemployed youths among  whom are women trainees .

 National Directorate of Employment (NDE) Director General,  Abubakar Nuhu-Fikpo disclosed this at an orientation ceremony  for the trainees in Owerri Imo State Capital,  Monday.

 Represented by the State  Coordinator,  of the NDE, Mrs Ngozi Ihenacho, the Director General explained  that the training was captured under the Directorate’s School-On-Wheels (SOW) skills acquisition empowerment scheme.

He  further explained that the School-On-Wheels is a mobile training scheme that involves training of persons who would be deployed to rural areas where there are few or no craftsmen.

The Director General added  that the beneficiaries would serve as trainers, imparting skills to the unemployed persons in their areas of deployment.

He commended  the NDE for reviving the School–On–Wheel scheme which according to him,   had  been moribund for over 10 years

The Director General assured that  the trainees  would be given  a resettlement package at the end of the training .

He also thanked the state  government for providing enabling environment for the activities of the Directorate to go on in the state

 According to him, “We are grateful to NDE management, especially the Vocational Skills Development (VSD) department, for reviving the School –On–Wheel scheme, giving it life again for the benefit of Nigerians.

 ” We also thank Gov. Hope Uzodimma under whose watch the NDE has continued to enjoy a conducive working environment leading to successes in our various activities”, she said.

Speaking, the VSD Director, Mallam Isa Abdul, urged the participants to focus more on the training than on the resettlement package.

Abdul who was represented by Mrs Modesta Ezeukwu, a staff of the VSD noted that while money may finish, acquired skills last forever.

 ” I urge you dear trainees to be focused on the training and punctual so as to get the best out of the programme.

 ” Always remember that although there is a resettlement package, the skills you acquire now are for a lifetime, hence the need to focus more on the skills rather than on the package”, he said.
