It was a moment of excitement as the pupils and teachers of Wings International Schools gathered at Offot Central Primary School, Ikot Akpe Offot, by the Federal Secretariat, Abak road for their maiden inter house sports competition.
Their joy knew no bounds because it was the first time for that kind of a big sporting event to have taken place in the school that has existed for about a decade.
It provided opportunity for competing pupils to display their sporting talents for laurels in the spirit of sportsmanship. Even the teachers who also doubled as house mistresses/masters were seen jostling to position their house members for medals among the four competing houses of Yellow, Blue, Red and Green. But the happiest among all of them was the daughter of the late proprietor and principal of the school, Mrs Philos Nsisong Mannaseh.
Speaking as the representative of the proprietor and school principal, Mrs Mannaseh explained that dearth of finance and unforseen logistics was the reason why it took about ten years for them to pull out a maiden edition of the inter house sports, adding that whenever fund is available the school would endeavor to hold the meet.
According to her, in every sporting competition there must always be a winner and and a looser, she therefore advised the winners to be magnanimous in victory and the losers gallant in defeat.  She took out time to appreciate staff of the school for the sacrifices they make everyday to groom the children as leaders of tomorrow, believing that they will receive their due rewards both here and in heaven.
In her welcome address, the head teacher, Mrs Mercy Dominic thanked parents of the pupils for their moral and financial support which has helped them to organize the first inter house sports for pupils to discover their talents in sports and inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship.
“I appreciate first Almighty God for bringing us to the venue of this inter house sports safely. I appreciate the principal of the school, Mrs Mannaseh for her effort to run around and ensure that this maiden inter house sports competition was successful.
“Nonetheless, I appreciate parents of the pupils for their moral and financial support which helped to organize the event for the pupils to bring out talents in them and instill the spirit of sportsmanship,” she said.
The maiden sporting event had as a theme, “developing the pupils talents in sports and took place last Friday.
