Eterigho Foundation, Giantsteps Trasjo School take Free Medical Outreach to Alagbado Community   

Residents of Alagbado community in Lagos State, who could not afford the high cost of medicines and medical services, at the weekend, heaved a sigh of relief, as they all received free health services.

At the free medical outreach, which was organized by the Okeoghene Samuel Eterigho Sickle Cell Awareness Foundation, in collaboration with The Giantsteps Trasjo School, in Alagbado, Lagos State, the residents, who received free health education, free blood pressure check, free sugar level test, free malaria test, free HIV test, free eye examination, among others, were also given free medicines, free counselling and free reading eye glasses.

Speaking at the event, Founder of Okeoghene Samuel Eterigho Sickle Cell Awareness Foundation and Proprietress of Giansteps Trasjo School, Alagbado, Lagos Erezi Eterigho, said that the gesture was to make impact on the community.

“We are here to make an impact and to make the community people feel that they belong, irrespective of their social background, economic power, and others”, she added.

Speaking on why the medical outreach way done within in the school compound, Eterigho said: “Giansteps Trasjo School, Alagbado, is one year and we are using this to celebrate the one year anniversary of the school.

“It’s just to let them know that this school is here to take care of the community and we are here to feel the pains of the community.”

Affirming that the gesture was part of the school’s corporate social responsibility (CSR), Eterigho added: “This is not the first time we are doing a charity programme this year. In the middle of this year, we had to share foodstuffs to the community, and we had a charity programme. It is something we do to impact people’s lives and help them as much as we can.”

Also at the event, former House of Representatives candidate in the 2023 election, Kazeem Akorede Daudu, from Ado-Odo Local Government Area of Ogun State, said that he came to support the good job the foundation is doing in the community.

Lamenting that many Nigerians find it difficult to eat, let alone buying medicines or accessing good medical care, Daudu expressed satisfaction that with the day’s gesture, many residents would get medical care.

“Today’s event is about helping people that can’t afford some basic medical needs,” Daudu added.

Stressing the importance of reaching out to help those who cannot afford basic medical needs and other necessities of life, Daudu urged other corporate bodies, wealthy Nigerians and organizations, to help those in need because the government alone cannot meet the needs of all the people.

“We should support our own people; helping people is what gives me joy the most. After the test, we will follow up on the patients to ensure that we assist those that need further help,” he added.

One of the medical personnel, who attended to the patients at the event, Dr. Stephen Okogu, said the outreach aimed to educate the people about sickle cell anaemia and other health challenges.

“In addition, we have consultations by the doctors in which the attendees can also ask necessary questions about their health.

“We also used the opportunity to educate them on the basic things they should do like simple hygiene, sleeping under insecticide treated nets, regular medical check-ups and eating healthy, among others, which are all good for their health.

“Even as the economy is not smiling on anyone, they can go to the general hospitals and the primary health care centers, for proper medical check-up”, Dr. Akogu added.

Olaolu Kehinde, one of the beneficiaries of the medical outreach, thanked the foundation for the gesture, saying: “God will bless Samuel Eterigho Sickle Cell Awareness Foundation and  Giansteps Trasjo School, Alagbado, for giving us free medical care.

“Before now, I had not been able to by medicine due to the high cost. We want them to continue this kindness to this our community.”
