Ecstasy as US/Nigeria Officials Parley on Security, Bilateral Cooperation, Covid-19 and Twitter ban.

Nigerians are in high ecstasy as the United States Deputy Chief Security Adviser Jonathan Finer and other top officials of the US administration meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria Mr Geoffrey Onyeama to discuss security, bilateral cooperation and the Covid -19 pandemic among others.

The Minister said the meeting which was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria Abuja on Monday had principally dwelt on issues of security in Nigeria and other African nations, bilateral cooperation, the coronavirus disease pandemic and the crisis in the Gulf of Guinea.

He thanked the visiting US security chiefs for the donating Pfizer and other vaccines to Nigeria in the heat of the coronavirus disease pandemic noting that US government spent over $2.5 million dollars for the gesture.

He further said that the visit by the US security officials is to look at areas of cooperation and constructive engagement between the two countries for their mutual benefits and to promote their national interests.

Onyeama hinted that the Nigeria and the US security officials talked at length about insecurity in Nigeria and how they can cooperate in addressing these issues adding that the parley also dwelt on consular issues and bilateral relations.

He said:”We talked about good governance, security, bilateral relations, consular issues and the suspension of Twitter in Nigeria’.

The Minister appreciated the US top officials for the delivery of super Tucano jets for security operations by the Nigerian security agencies in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.

Also speaking in the same vein the visiting Deputy Security Adviser Mr Jonathan Finer said that the US ‘ll continue to support vaccination and security in Nigeria and other African countries.

He informed that the US is convening a summit for democracy in December 2021 where mutual matters in both countries will be discussed and agreed on.
