Covid-19: Ogun Vaccinates 126,000 Residents, Begins Second Phase Vaccination

ABEOKUTA – As the third wave of the covid-19 continue to rise daily, Ogun state government said it has vaccinated about 126,000 residents of the state in the first phase of the covid-19 vaccination exercise.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker who disclosed this to newsmen on Monday in Abeokuta noted that, a total number of 5,181 were confirmed cases with 73 deaths representing 1.4 % of the total number of cases.

According to the Commissioner, the second phase of the Moderna vaccination received some weeks ago commenced yesterday across the 131 vaccination centres set up in the 20 local government areas of the state.

She emphasized that, additional 26 mobile vaccination sites have been set up in the markets, motor parks, and religious centres to allow easy access to vaccination.

Coker explained that, the Moderna vaccines are to be administered in two doses at three or four weeks interval.

She however, urged the people to continue observing the non-pharmaceutical interventions such as wearing of face masks, washing of hands and avoid physical distance.

“Having successfully implemented an efficient first phase in which a total of over One Hundred and Twenty Six Thousand (126,000) Ogun State Residents were vaccinated, we have commenced planning for the second phase of Covid-19 Vaccination.

The ultra-cold chain refrigerator was delivered to the state and fully installed to keep the recently received Moderna vaccines between -45°C to – 15°C. The Moderna vaccine is expected to be administered in two doses at three to four weeks interval.

“The second phase of the vaccination in the State commences today, Monday, 23rd August and will run till Saturday 11th September, 2021.

“There are a total of 131 Vaccination Sites set up for vaccination with 105 Fixed Sites, which include Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Federal Medical Centre, State and General Hospitals and Primary Health 20 local government facilities across the State while we have 26 Mobile sites which are based in market places, motor parks and religious centres to allow easy access to vaccination. We also have Super Sites to cater to those that received their first dose from other States or LGAs.

“The above measures have been put in place to curtail the third wave of the pandemic. however do not forget to continue observing which includes the NPI which includes, wearing masks, washing of hands, and avoid physical distance.
