The deputy governor of Bayelsa State, Dr Peter Akpe, has commiserated with the chairman of the state environmental sanitation authority, Chief Timothy Itiedu, his siblings and the family, on the passing of their father and patriarch, Chief Alfred Itiedu.
Speaking during a condolence visit to the deceased’s family in Azikoro Town, a suburb of Yenagoa, over the weekend, Dr Akpe described the demise of the late Chief Alfred Itiedu as painful and a huge loss to the family and the entire Azikoro community.
He, however, encouraged them to be strong and take solace in the fact that their departed father had left behind a good legacy, which explained why a large number of people has been thronging their homes to mourn with them since his passing.
Dr Akpe described death as an expected and inevitable end for every mortal man on earth, noting that what is most significant is what people would say about a person when he or she had departed this present world.
The Deputy Governor acknowledged late Pa Itiedu’s contribution to the development of Azikoro community and the state, and assured the deceased’s family that the state government does not only share in their moment of grief, but will also participate fully in the funeral programme to honour the departed patriarch.
His words: “Death is an expected end; one day everybody will die but when you die, what will people speak of you that is an important question we must not forget to consider.
“All of you that have come around from Epie, Atissa, Yenagoa and other places to console the children, are the testimonies of the good life our father lived the Bible says, by their fruits, you shall know them.
“The children he had left behind should keep the flag of our late Pa Alfred Itiedu flying he was amiable, and one man who also contributed his quota to the development of his community and the state.
” Let’s take solace in his good legacies for the rest of us that are still alive by God’s grace we must look at the good side of Papa live it and build on it so his legacy would endure.”
Responding on behalf of the family, the chairman of the Bayelsa State Environmental Sanitation Authority, Chief Timothy Itiedu, thanked the deputy governor for coming to condole the family just a day after the passing of their father.
Chief Timothy Itiedu informed that after the initial ceremonial mourning activities were over, the family would officially fix a date for the final burial ceremony of their patriarch and formally communicate same to the state government.
The deputy governor was accompanied on the visit by the acting chief of staff, Government House, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo; former commissioner for environment, Chief Iselema Gbaranbiri; the APC house of Assembly candidate for Sagbama Constituency 1, Hon. Lucky Agbalaje; the APC chairman for Sagbama LGA, Mr. Arioke Ohwona, among other dignitaries.
