Biafra day celebration : partial sit-at- home, as security agents desert roads

Sequel to alleged celebration of Biafran day today( Tuesday ) which was postponed from yesterday( Monday) to today, by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, business activities  in Anambra State were partially recorded as some markets, banks, schools, and courts were shut over fear of attack.

Traffic wardens, Anambra State Traffick Agency, ASTA officials and other road traffic personnel, abandoned their duty posts .

Some students and pupils that went to school were turned back by their management to avoid being attacked .

The normal heavy vehicular traffic  recorded in the early hours on daily basis especially in Onitsha and environs became a different thing today as only few vehicles were seen on the roads.

According to a trader, Mr Johnson Akuge, “today is Biafran day celebration. It would have been celebrated yesterday being Monday but because it coincided with the Monday sit-at-home, IPOB has to postpone it to today, (Tuesday)”

“IPOB doesn’t want the celebration to also hold last Monday. They don’t want to join it with any other activity. So you can see that out of fear, some schools, markets, banks, courts, among others were shut”

Also reacting, a student who pleaded anonymity said that, “I was on my way to school today when I noticed that the roads were not busy and on enquiry I was told that IPOB is celebrating Biafran day and I have to go back”

“I live at Otolo Nnewi from where I go to school in Onitsha daily, we use school bus and sometimes like today the bus didn’t come and I decided to board a vehicle to Onitsha”

In his own contribution, the state chairman of Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, told this paper that, “it is another two day holiday after the weekend”

“The economy of the Southeasterners has been shattered to the extent that every body is affected.

Within the past week we had about three day sit-at-home and this week it has continued. The worst is that hoodlums have capitalized on the bad situation to act as IPOB members when they are not, it is a sorry situation”

“It is only God that will save us from the unfortunate situation which we have found ourselves. On Monday business activities were paralysed and today the same thing”, he posited.
