The Ebonyi State Government has debunked reports in the Social Media alluding that Governor David Umahi ordered the arrest of one Jackie Ikeotuonye over garnishee orders against the state government.

In a Press Statement issued by the Governor Special Assistant on Media/Strategy Mr Chooks Oko, the government described it as misleading and outrightly fallacious.

“It is strictly her case against the Ebonyi State government and the security agencies, it is the Police that is investigating the matter for forgery”

“The attention of the Governor of Ebonyi state, Engineer David Umahi has been drawn to a post circulating around Facebook by one Jackie Ikeotuonye, that Governor Umahi ordered her arrest over garnishee orders against the Government of Ebonyi State”

According to the Statement, “Sometime in 2015,  Ikeotuonye approached Ebonyi State Government through her company, Andrew Bishopton Ltd requesting to serve as agents to help the State Government  recover her share of Paris club refunds for a fee”

The Statement added that “Government gave them the contract but called for a review when the Governors, under the aegis of Nigerian Governors Forum, collectively made an alternative arrangement that later yielded fruits”

“Having done nothing for the State Government, the contract with Andrew Bishopton Ltd was terminated but Ikeotuonye quickly ran to a former President who intervened and got the State to pay her fifty million naira as final settlement, an agreement was signed to that effect”

The Statement continued, “surprisingly, Ikeotuonye surreptitiously sued the State and got garnishee orders for a non -existent thirty billion naira debt”

“Seeing this breach of contract, the State Government moved, got the order quashed and duly reported the matter to Police.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Ebonyi State Command, has confirmed the arrest of the suspected fraudster Jackie Iketuonye.

In a Press Release signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer SP Chris Anyanwu, stated that the allegations made by the suspect in Social Media was meant to scurry unnecessary empathy in favour of the fraud suspect.

According to the Statement, “Jackie Ikeotuonye is a suspect in a case of Advance Fee Fraud”

” She allegedly defrauded the Ebonyi State Government to the tune of fifty million naira in the pretense of being a Consultant on Recovery of Funds contrary to Section 1 of Advance Fee Fraud Cap A6. Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2006″

The Statement added that a warrant of Arrest duly issued by the High Court of Ebonyi State of Nigeria was used to apprehend the aforesaid suspect.
