As the national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gets closer, a National Chairmanship aspirant, Dr Sani Shinkafi has pledged to insist on the supremacy of the party at all levels if elected as its next national chairman.

He stated this while speaking to journalists at the party’s National Secretariat  when he declared his interest to contest for the position.

Dr. Shinkafi is a former National Secretary of the opposition All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and also the immediate past secretary of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) said that he would promote and strengthen internal democracy within the party.

“It is with great pleasure and a sense of humility that I welcome you to this historic declaration.

“I am here today to formally express my interest to contest for the position of national chairman of our great party, the APC at the National Convention slated for Feb. 26, 2022.

“With my wide experience, I believe l have what it takes to pilot the affairs of the APC and take it to greater heights.

“We will maintain the supremacy of the party at all levels and wage war against imposition of unpopular candidates, during the general election.

“We will also put an end to politics of Godfatherism and impunity in the governance of the party at all levels of our leaderships,” he said.

Dr. Shinkafi also stressed the need to maintain a credible membership register adding that those are one of the things he will address if elected.

Speaking about the chairmanship interest of the former governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari, Shinkafi said the ex governor was on a journey to nowhere as his membership of the party is doubtful.

He challenged the Yari to show the world his authentic party membership card even as he declared that currently Yari “is automatically disqualified from national chairmanship race because he (Yari) is not a registered APC member.”

He said he was not in the race to wittledown the influence and the chances of Yari, but noted  his decision to boycott the revalidation and registeration exercise had already disqualified him from the race.

Shinkafi stated: “To me Abdulaziz Yari knows who I am. He’s one of my best friends in those days before he became governor and turned himself into a mini-god. Before me and Matawalle became friends, I have been friends with Yari.

“As far as the national record of APC is concerned, in my text of press briefing, I have made more emphasis on the credible and verifiable membership register.

“I challenge you and I challenge everyone here to go and meet Abdulazeez Yari and ask him, let him show you his authentic and revalidated membership card as a card carrying member of APC.

“As far as we are concerned, he is already automatically disqualified from this race and based on that I don’t want our State to take risk of not participating, or not taking slot in our great party and I have decided to join the race. You can go and verify from his ward, his name is not on the register and he doesn’t have authentic membership card.”

APC is presently preparing to hold its National Convention on February 26 and many members have expressed their interests to contest for the position of National Chairman.
