Alleged organ harvesting: Court orders NIMC to submit David Ukpo’s biodata to AGF

CHIGOZIEIKPO, Abuja and VICTOR DURUAMAKU, Owerri

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday ordered the National Identification Management Commission NIMC, to immediately release details of David Nwamini Ukpo to the Attorney General of the Federation AGF, Abubakar Malami, SAN, for onward transmission to the United Kingdom Court.

The court issued the order following a request made by the Commission and in response to the request of the detained former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu to defend himself in a London court.

Although the court had on July 1 issued an order that the four respondents sued by Ekweremadu release details of David Ukpo to him and his detained wife, Beatrice, NIMC did not obey the order.

At Wednesday’s proceedings, counsel for NIMC, Mr. Muazu Mohammed told the court that his client could not obey the order of the Court because it was not served with hearing notice before the order was issued against it.

Mohammed who earlier asked for revocation of the order later amended his motion on notice.

In place of revocation of the order, the counsel requested that his client be directed to submit information on David Ukpo to the AGF instead of Ekweremadu for onward transmission to the United Kingdom Court detaining the Nigerian Senator.

The request was not opposed by Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN who stood for Ekweremadu.

The trial Judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo subsequently granted the request and ordered NIMC to submit it to the AGF for onward transmission to London court.

Meanwhile, the Council of Elders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has requested the President –General of the Igbo apex cultural body, Professor George Obiozor to ensure that the Igbo  has a legal representation at the London trial of  the former Deputy Senate President  Ike Ekweremadu beginning Thursday.

In a letter to the president of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan dated  July 5,  2022, titled “Travail of our illustrious son Senator Ike Ekweremadu,   signed by the Chairman, Council of Elders,  Chief Engr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu (AhaejiagambaNdigbo), the OhanaezeNdigbo  said “we are determined to defend any honest and patriotic citizen  of ours whose right and freedom is being unduly trampled upon anywhere in the world.”

Chief Iwuanyanwu noted, “the news about the arrest of the Former Deputy Senate President with his wife in far away London was received with shock in many places especially within the rank and file of the umbrella body of all Igbo Socio-Cultural  Organization (the Ohanaeze Ndigbo)”

According to Chief Iwuanyanwu, the former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu has been a very active member of the organization.

The elder statesman however expressed delight that the true story about the predicament of the embattled former Deputy Senate President and his wife had begun to emerge.

“We do not have any doubt whatsoever that the truth will emerge and our son and his wife will be vindicated. We are however happy and profoundly appreciative of your solidarity to your dear colleague and friend during this trying period”, he added.

The group also prayed that the Almighty God would visit the daughter of Ekweremadu who is sick with divine healing.
