A professional and advocacy group the Association of Legislative Drafters and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP) has call on members of the Senate and the House of Representatatives to work towards proper drafting as well as documentation of legislations passed in both chambers of the legislature.

The group also advocated the proper gazetting of laws and resolutions passed in the two chambers of the apex legislature for the strengthening of the role of the parliament in a democracy.

They made the call  at the induction of new members and launch/public presentation of two books written by leading members of the advocacy group in Abuja.

They called for proper drafting of all laws and other legislative instruments such as motions and resolutions for ease of referencing and noted that most laws passed by lawmkers were not properly drafted.

According to the ALDARP Secretary Dr.Tonye Jaja there are about 552 Acts and another 244 pieces of legislations enacted into law by the National Assembly at different times that were not properly documented in the archives.

The lawyer who also doubles as an academic had argued that the rework and re-enactment of the Petroleum Industry Bill now Petroleum Industry Act and the Electoral  Amendment Act by the legislature would have not occurred if these laws were properly drafted.

The elitist group inducted 55 new members into the fellowship and membership categories of the organisation including the Clerk of the House Dr.Yahaya Danzaria who is now a fellow of the association.

High point of the event was the launch of two books  titled Manual on Legal Procedures for the Implementation of the Resolutions of the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly and Essays in Honour of the right honourable Speaker: Legislative Practices and Procedures authored by Aigbefor Daniel and Dr.Tonye Jaja who are its members.
