Martin Agbaso collects Imo state Labour Party guber form

Martin Agbaso has collected the Labour party (LP) form to contest for Imo state governor in the November 11 gubernatorial elections.

Agbaso, a Nigerian economist announced his candidacy on March 8 in a tweet, where he said he was answering the call from the people of Imo state.

“In response to the overwhelming call by Imolites, well-meaning Igbo leaders and the global Obidient family, I have stepped forward. Our journey to fix Imo has begun,” he tweeted.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had postponed the regular season guber elections from March 11 to March 18 on the day Agbaso announced his candidacy.

Unlike the regular guber election season, Imo state will hold its election on November 11, 2023, as well as Kogi and Bayelsa states.

The off-season election is due to the interference of the Supreme Court which declared Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the duly elected governor of Imo state on January 14, 2020. 

Earlier in 2007, Agbaso contested the governorship election under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). 

Eventually, Agbaso lost the election due to a cancellation by INEC. He went on to lead APGA at the state and national level, before joining the ruling APC in 2018.

Agbaso declared his support and campaigned for the LP Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi in the 2023 general elections. 

Obi won Imo state with 352, 904 votes; above 70 per cent of the votes cast on the February 25 election.
