Nigeria and Egypt have pledged to work collaboratively to improve education and to smooth diplomatic and trade relations and have agreed to establish more long-lasting relations on the African continent.
This was the outcome of the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria Amb Yusuf Maitama Tuggar and his Egyptian counterpart Mr Badr Abdelatty at the Tafawa Balewa House in Abuja.
Minister Tuggar said that Nigeria has long-lasting relations with Egypt and called for more partnership with the country to ensure the two countries remain leading lights of the African continent.
He said that President Bola Tinubu and Egyptian President Abdulfatai Alsisi have been working behind the scene to smoothen the diplomatic and trade relations between the two nations.
He told his visitors that he at the verge of leading a delegation of the Nigeria Foreign Ministry to Egypt to a summit on the Nigeria-Egypt Business Forum..
He further called for a closer working relationship in terms of trade, agriculture, science and technology
Also in his speech, the visiting Egyptian counterpart Mr Abdr Abdelatty said that the visit to Nigeria is to explore areas of cooperation in terms of trade, agriculture and education.
He said “We ve to help each other in the area of food security. We are delighted to recognize the role of the private sector players in the economy of our country and urge your citizens to do more for our nation”
He said the Egyptian President and the education authorities are committed to doubling the scholarships that the nation had awarded to many Nigerian citizens in Egyptian universities.
He noted that both have existing cordial relations and both countries need to do more in terms of socio-economic development for their citizens.
