From: Joseph Okwuofu, Ibadan.
An Oyo State High Court sitting at Ring Road, Ibadan, has fixed Tuesday, January 13, 2025 to rule on the bail application filed by Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the former queen of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and two others.
The others are the Proprietor of the Ibadan based Agidigbo FM Radio , Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat; and Principal of Islamic High School, Baosrun, Abdullahi Fasasi.
The applications for bail were heard by Justice K. B. Olawoyin of Oyo State High Court 8, on Tuesday.
Counsels to the suspects had filed application for bail before the court.
After listening to the submission and arguments of the counsels, Justice Olawoyin adjourned the ruling on their bail applications till Tuesday, January 13.
The suspects are currently being remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Agodi, Ibadan following the death of at least 35 children at Xmas carnival organized by Ex-Queen Naomi Silekunola and proprietor of Agidigbo FM, Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat.
Fasasi was represented by Waheed Olajide, while Naomi and Hamzat were represented by Musibau Adetunmbi (SAN) and Adekunle Sobaloju (SAN), repsectively.
The cases were argued separately by the counsels in a proceeding that lasted over five hours.
In their respective arguments, the counsels told the court why the suspects should be allowed to enjoy their freedom, noting that there are no sufficient evidence before the court to warrant their confinement to a correctional facility.
However, Oyo State Government, who had earlier filed a counter application, opposed the bail applications of the suspects, pleading for more time to enable thorough investigation into the matter.
The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Mr Abiodun Aikomo, led top officials from the Ministry of Justice to represent the state government.
