Efosa Festus Enogieru: Two decades of cinematography , aerial storytelling

With about two decades of experience in television, cinematography and professional drone operation, Efosa Festus Enogieru has built a career around visual storytelling and the changing technologies of Nigeria’s film and television industry.

Enogieru began his professional career as a cameraman with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), where he developed practical experience in television production, camera operation and broadcast visual techniques.

His early years in television provided a foundation in framing, composition, lighting and camera movement, skills that would later become central to his work in the motion picture industry.

In 2014, he moved fully into the Nigerian film industry, expanding his work across cinematography, camera operation, Steadicam and aerial drone cinematography.

Over the years, Enogieru has worked on film and television productions in different technical and creative capacities, combining conventional camera work with stabilised movement and aerial imagery.

His experience as both a cinematographer and drone operator has enabled him to approach aerial filming not simply as flying an aircraft, but as an extension of cinematography.

For Enogieru, the objective of drone cinematography is to ensure that aerial images contribute meaningfully to the visual language of a production.

“Cinematography is about telling the story through images,” he said. “Whether the camera is on the ground, on a Steadicam or in the air, every movement and every frame should have a purpose.”

His body of work includes productions such as Esohe, Adesuwa, Okoro the Prince, ATM, Blindspot, Fugitive, Mama and Ebomisi, among other film and television projects.

The evolution of drone technology has significantly changed contemporary filmmaking, providing filmmakers with aerial perspectives that previously required helicopters, cranes and other costly equipment.

For professionals such as Enogieru, however, operating a drone for film production requires more than technical flying ability. It also involves an understanding of composition, camera movement, location, subject positioning, continuity and the creative requirements of the director and cinematographer.
