3 feared dead, others injured in Ibadan as Oyo APC, PDP members clash

..Police launch investigation into clash

Bloody violence broke out on Thursday evening at the Ile-Tuntun area of Ibadan South East Local Government of Oyo following a clash between members of the state All Progressive Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

 

Three persons were reportedly dead, while 13 others sustained severe injuries in the mayhem.

 

The entire area was deserted, as sounds of gun shots boomed , a source close to the scene of the clash told our reporter.

 

Quite a number of motorcycles and vehicles were damaged, as pieces of classes scattered all over the place.

 

According to a source, the dead bodies have been evacuated to the morgue, while the injured are currently receiving medical attention at a nearby hospital.

 

It was gathered that members of the APC were holding a meeting at the party office at Iyana Court, Ile-tuntun , Ibadan when vehicles of the PDP members passing by provoked members of the APC by throwing objects at them.

A source further said ” when retaliated, a leading member of the PDP and a member of the House of Representatives picked a gun, and fired gunshots at the APC members. That was what led to free for all. ”

The provoked attack saw many members of the APC injured with the party’s assembly candidate in constituency 2, Wariths Alawuje, escaping by the whiskers.

 

Alawuje, who spoke to newsmen said he was grateful he escaped the assassination attempt on his life and those of others.

 

” We were in a meeting with party executives when he heard members of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP ) , walking towards our office. Our people waited, for them to go. Not long after, we saw a top member of the PDP whispering to another and the next thing, we started hearing gunshots and before we can say jack, many of our people have been injured, cars had been damaged while nearby houses were not spared,” he said.

 

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO), DSP Adewale Osifeso said ” the case is under investigation as we speak, further updates as regards the clash will be communicated accordingly “.
